About us

FIC Africa was formerly known as Forum for International Cooperation which was originally started in Europe back in 1995. The organization expanded its international focus, launching projects in Denmark and broader Europe, while simultaneously extending its footprint in Africa, initially in Tanzania and later in Kenya. These endeavors primarily targeted employment and labor issues.  Transitioning from individual projects to a comprehensive program, "Decent Work and Labour Rights in East Africa," became a cornerstone of FIC's mission. This program aims to improve working conditions and promote decent employment through strategic partnerships with trade unions and youth organizations.

Today, FIC-A has grown into an independent local organization, registered locally and operating autonomously from its origins in Denmark. This evolution signifies FIC-A maturity and resilience in tackling contemporary socio-economic challenges while remaining committed to its founding principles of democracy promotion and international solidarity.

FIC-A is dedicated to promoting economic freedom and social inclusion for the youth, women, and workers in Africa. At FIC Africa, we believe that every individual has the right to a decent and sustainable livelihood. Unfortunately, many marginalized groups such as the youth, women, and workers face significant barriers in accessing economic opportunities and participating fully in society.

Youth Employment.

FIC Africa recognizes the pressing issue of youth unemployment and has developed comprehensive programs to address this challenge.

The Youth Employment Initiatives focus on providing both technical skills and life skills to young individuals, ensuring they are well-prepared for the job market.

These initiatives involve collaboration with civil society organizations to enhance the governance and management capacities of youth organizations.

By doing so, FIC Africa empowers these organizations to effectively support young people in their pursuit of decent employment.

One of the core components of this program is entrepreneurship support. FIC Africa assists young people in starting and improving their micro-businesses by offering mentorship programs and access to financial resources. This approach not only creates employment opportunities but also fosters a spirit of innovation and self-reliance among the youth.

Women Economic Empowerment

FIC Africa is deeply committed to reducing economic inequality and promoting social inclusion among women. The Women's Economic Empowerment program focuses on capacity building, training, and leadership development for underprivileged women.

By targeting young women with low education and skills, single mothers, widows, and those engaged in unpaid care work, FIC Africa aims to enhance their economic opportunities and social status.

The program also emphasizes advocacy and policy influence. FIC Africa works closely with legitimate women's organizations, coalitions, and local governments to advocate for women's rights and economic opportunities.

By promoting policies that enhance women's participation in economic activities, FIC Africa strives to create a more equitable and inclusive society.

Workers Rights

FIC Africa's Workers' Rights Advocacy program is designed to support low-skilled workers in labor-intensive sectors.

Recognizing that these workers are often vulnerable to exploitation and unfair labor practices, FIC Africa works to strengthen trade unions and empower workers to improve their working conditions.

The program promotes effective voice and collective representation by encouraging workers to participate in trade union movements and activities.

Through social dialogue and collective bargaining, FIC Africa helps workers negotiate for fair labor standards and better working conditions.

The program also involves partnerships with employers, government agencies, and civil society organizations to address decent work deficits and promote fair labor practices.
